The Data Mining Process

The Data Mining Lab (DML) is hosted in the Department of Computer Science at Brigham Young University. It is located at 3308 TMCB, +1-801-422-7817.

Data Mining is the study and application of analysis methods aimed at the nontrivial extraction of implicit, previously unknown, and preferably actionable knowledge from data. As is evident from the diagram to the right, Data Mining is a process that involves a number of steps at which both business acumen and technical expertise must be leveraged to ensure success.

Hence, work in the DML attempts to combine theory with practice through research efforts grounded in the solution of real-world problems. The DML offers research opportunities for both graduate and undergraduate students. Visits to our lab are welcome at anytime. If you would like to attend a meeting, please see the DML Calendar. Additionally, please feel free to contact Christophe Giraud-Carrier (3364 TMCB, +1-801-422-3027).
